If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Crop Collections Curator at the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN), part of Wageningen Plant Research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What will you do?<\/strong><br \/>As our new curator, you will be involved in the management of several key crop collections. You will be responsible for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the curation of the tomato and sweet pepper collections;<\/li>\n<li>the curation of the legume collections: beans, pea, faba bean and lupin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tomato and sweet pepper are two of the most important vegetable crops within the CGN collection. These collections consist of thousands of accessions that must be maintained, tested for phytosanitary status, genetically and phenotypically characterised, and made available to users both in the Netherlands and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, you will manage the legume collections, comprising beans (<em>Phaseolus<\/em>), pea, faba bean and lupin. These collections are of major importance for global food security and sustainable agriculture, and are receiving considerable attention due to the growing interest in plant-based proteins.<\/p>\n<p>In concrete terms, this means you will be involved in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>maintaining, regenerating and monitoring the collections;<\/li>\n<li>carrying out phytosanitary testing and safeguarding the health of the plant material;<\/li>\n<li>genetic and phenotypic description (characterisation) of accessions;<\/li>\n<li>providing material to users worldwide;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to national and international networks and collaborations in the field of plant genetic resources;<\/li>\n<li>communicating with users, researchers and fellow curators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your contribution is crucial to the secure conservation of our genetic resources, ensuring they remain available worldwide for research and use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The team<\/strong><br \/>You will be working within a team of around 14 colleagues at the genebank, including several fellow curators. Dan hebben we voor jou een interessante functie als curator gewascollecties bij het Centrum voor Genetische Bronnen Nederland (CGN) van Wageningen Plant Research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wat ga je doen?<\/strong><br \/>Als onze nieuwe curator ga je je bezighouden met het beheer van meerdere belangrijke gewascollecties. Je wordt verantwoordelijk voor:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>het curatorschap van de collecties van tomaat en paprika;<\/li>\n<li>het curatorschap van de peulvruchtencollecties: bonen, erwt, fababoon en lupine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tomaat en paprika zijn twee van de belangrijkste groentegewassen binnen de CGN-collectie. De collecties bestaan uit duizenden accessies die in stand gehouden moeten worden, fytosanitair getest, genetisch en fenotypisch beschreven, en beschikbaar gesteld aan gebruikers uit binnen- en buitenland.<\/p>\n<p>Daarnaast beheer je de peulvruchtencollecties, bestaande uit bonen (Phaseolus), erwt, fababoon en lupine. Deze collecties zijn van groot belang voor de mondiale voedselzekerheid en duurzame landbouw, en staan volop in de aandacht door de groeiende interesse in plantaardige eiwitten.<\/p>\n<p>Concreet betekent dit dat je je bezighoudt met:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>het in stand houden, vermeerderen en monitoren van de collecties;<\/li>\n<li>fytosanitair testen en het bewaken van de gezondheid van het plantmateriaal;<\/li>\n<li>genetische en fenotypische beschrijving (karakterisering) van accessies;<\/li>\n<li>beschikbaar stellen van materiaal aan gebruikers wereldwijd;<\/li>\n<li>bijdragen aan nationale en internationale netwerken en samenwerkingen op het gebied van plantgenetische bronnen;<\/li>\n<li>communicatie met gebruikers, onderzoekers en andere curatoren.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Je inzet is van groot belang voor het veilig bewaren van onze genetische bronnen, zodat deze wereldwijd beschikbaar blijven voor onderzoek en gebruik.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Het team<\/strong><br \/>Je komt samen te werken in een team van ca. 14 collega\u2019s bij de genenbank, waaronder een aantal mede-curatoren. Then read on and apply soon!<\/p>\n<p>The One Health Virology department at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) in Lelystad has an opening for a researcher in Avian Influenza.<\/p>\n<p>As the national reference laboratory for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease, WBVR is responsible for testing animals suspected of having these highly contagious viral diseases. This winter, the Netherlands was once again hit by a major outbreak of avian influenza among wild birds and poultry, and this problem is expected to persist in the coming years. Because avian influenza is one of the most variable and rapidly evolving viruses, we are constantly working to keep our diagnostic tests up to date - and that\u2019s where we need your expertise!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>A key part of your role involves establishing, modifying, validating, and accrediting diagnostic tests (particularly PCR, sequencing, ELISA, and VNT). In addition, you will be involved - especially during the critical period of an outbreak - in the further characterization of detected viruses (PCR, whole-genome sequencing) and database management. If the situation requires it, you will also contribute to the rapid development of new diagnostic tests.<\/p>\n<p>During periods outside of outbreaks, you will contribute to research projects focused on understanding and combating avian influenza and Newcastle Disease virus.<\/p>\n<p>You are also willing to participate in the team responsible for on-call duties. Its unique selling point lies in its interdisciplinary approach to research and its focus on innovative solutions for complex problems in these fields.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR has a unique position in the Netherlands, as it is the only research institute that is allowed to work with the most animal viruses and bacteria up to level vBSL4 (vDM4), such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever in laboratories and animal facilities, were large livestock animals (o.a. cattle) and smaller rodents can be housed. Also, facilities are in place to do research and animal experiments for BLS3 pathogens such as avian influenza and Coxiella. Different experts on specific pathogens, host responses, bioinformatics, pathology, epidemiology and diagnostics allows WBVR to work on the mission and vision of WBVR.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR contributes to a society where animals and humans live a healthy life by scientific research to prevent the spread of animal diseases and promote health.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR adds value to the agricultural and life sciences value chains by conducting contract research, R&amp;D, and statutory research tasks. We serve the interests of the Dutch agro-food sector, (veterinary) public health, and the life sciences &amp; health sectors. Heb je ervaring met virologische en immunologische technieken, en wil je meewerken aan onderzoek naar het vogelgriep- en Newcastle Disease? Lees dan verder, en reageer snel!<\/p>\n<p>Binnen de afdeling One Health Virology bij Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) in Lelystad is een vacature voor een HBO onderzoeker Vogelgriep.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR is als nationaal referentielaboratorium voor Vogelgriep en Newcastle Disease verantwoordelijk voor het testen van dieren verdacht van deze zeer besmettelijke virusziekten. Deze winter werd Nederland opnieuw getroffen door een grote uitbraak van vogelgriep onder wilde vogels en pluimvee, en naar verwachting zal dit probleem ook komende jaren spelen. Omdat aviaire influenza een van de meest variabele en snel evoluerende virussen is, werken we continu aan het up-to-date houden van onze diagnostische testen - en daar hebben we jouw expertise voor nodig!<\/p>\n<p><strong> Je werkzaamheden<\/strong><br \/>Een belangrijk onderdeel van de werkzaamheden is het opzetten, aanpassen, valideren en accrediteren van diagnostische testen (met name PCR, sequencing, ELISA en VNT). Daarnaast ben je - zeker tijdens de spannende periode van een uitbraak - betrokken bij de verdere karakterisering van gedetecteerde virussen (PCR\u2019s, volledige genoomsequencing) en databankbeheer. Indien de situatie daarom vraagt, draag je ook bij aan de snelle ontwikkeling van nieuwe diagnostische testen.<\/p>\n<p>In periodes buiten de uitbraken draag je bij aan onderzoeksprojecten die gericht zijn op kennis over en bestrijding van vogelgriep en Newcastle Disease virus.<\/p>\n<p>Ook ben je bereid om mee te draaien in het team dat verantwoordelijk is voor de achterwachtdiensten. De unieke kracht van WBVR ligt in de interdisciplinaire benadering van onderzoek en de focus op innovatieve oplossingen voor complexe vraagstukken binnen deze domeinen.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR neemt een unieke positie in binnen Nederland, aangezien het het enige onderzoeksinstituut is dat bevoegd is om te werken met de meeste dierlijke virussen en bacteri\u00ebn tot en met niveau vBSL\u20114 (vDM\u20114), zoals mond\u2011 en klauwzeer en Afrikaanse varkenspest. Dit onderzoek vindt plaats in laboratoria en dierfaciliteiten waar zowel grote landbouwhuisdieren (zoals runderen) als kleinere knaagdieren kunnen worden gehuisvest. Daarnaast beschikt WBVR over faciliteiten voor onderzoek en dierexperimenten met BSL\u20113\u2011pathogenen, zoals aviaire influenza en <em>Coxiella<\/em>. De aanwezigheid van experts op het gebied van specifieke pathogenen, gastheerresponsen, bio\u2011informatica, pathologie, epidemiologie en diagnostiek stelt WBVR in staat te werken aan haar missie en visie.<\/p>\n<p>WBVR draagt bij aan een samenleving waarin dieren en mensen gezond kunnen leven, door middel van wetenschappelijk onderzoek gericht op het voorkomen van de verspreiding van dierziekten en het bevorderen van gezondheid.<\/p>\n<p>Daarnaast voegt WBVR waarde toe aan de agro\u2011 en levenswetenschappelijke waardeketens door het uitvoeren van contractonderzoek, onderzoek en ontwikkeling (R&amp;D) en wettelijke onderzoekstaken.
