The project focuses on advanced light-management strategies for high-efficiency all-perovskite tandem solar cells.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><br \/>All-perovskite tandem solar cells have recently achieved record efficiencies above 29%, demonstrating their enormous potential for next-generation photovoltaic technologies. Despite this rapid progress, optical losses still limit device performance. Reflection losses, parasitic absorption, and incomplete spectral splitting reduce the efficient use of sunlight in tandem architectures.<br \/>In this PhD project, you will develop innovative light-management concepts to minimize these optical losses and improve the efficiency of all-perovskite tandem solar cells. The work combines nanophotonic design, optical modelling, materials processing, and device fabrication.<br \/>The project is embedded in the national SolarNL initiative and includes collaborations with leading Dutch research institutes and industrial partners, including AMOLF and TNO.<\/p>\n<p>You will investigate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Photonic and light-management structures for enhanced absorption in tandem solar cells<\/li>\n<li>Material growth strategies to reduce parasitic optical losses in e.g. transparent conducting oxides.<\/li>\n<li>Advanced spectral management concepts for improved current matching<\/li>\n<li>Optical simulations and modelling of multilayer photovoltaic devices<\/li>\n<li>Fabrication and characterization of optical coatings and perovskite tandem devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Job Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motivated and passionate researcher, with a master\u2019s degree (or an equivalent university degree) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, (Applied) Physics, or Materials Science.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs.<\/li>\n<li>A team player who enjoys supervising Bachelor and MSc. students.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English, good communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Interest in photovoltaics, optoelectronics, nanophotonics, or semiconductor materials<\/li>\n<li>Experience with experimental research is appreciated.<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment (the M2D group is part of two departments, Applied Physics and Chemical Engineering and Chemistry).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conditions of Employment<\/strong><br \/>A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. However, in practical operation, feedstock composition can fluctuate, and impurities may be present, leading to transient catalyst behavior and deactivation. A fundamental understanding of these effects is currently lacking.<\/p>\n<p>In this project, you will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Investigate the impact of feedstock composition - Conduct kinetic studies under varying CO\/CO\u2082\/H\u2082 ratios, in the presence of contaminants, and under transient operating conditions to quantify catalytic activity, product selectivity (e\u2011naphtha to e\u2011wax), and stability.<\/li>\n<li>Track catalyst state under realistic conditions - apply bulk operando and quasi-in situ techniques to monitor active phase evolution and structural changes during reaction.<\/li>\n<li>Link surface chemistry to catalytic performance - use advanced surface-sensitive methods, including near-ambient pressure XPS, DRIFTS, and SSITKA-DRIFTS-MS, to identify surface intermediates and correlate surface coverage with reaction kinetics.<\/li>\n<li>Develop advanced characterization workflows -
