Als Co\u00f6rdinator internationale vertegenwoordiging zorg jij ervoor dat het KNMI op het wereldtoneel goed vertegenwoordigd is. Je onderhoudt relaties, bewaakt belangen, adviseert de directie en draagt bij aan strategische Europese en mondiale besluitvorming. Het KNMI is volop in beweging en professionaliseert de internationale vertegenwoordiging. Jij ziet dit als een kans om processen te versterken, samenwerking te verbeteren en meer internationale impact te realiseren. Je hebt veel interne contacten met collega\u2011experts \u00e9n werkt intensief samen met het ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat en andere partners in het Rijk. Samen met je collega\u2019s geef je vorm aan een toekomstbestendige internationale strategie voor het KNMI. Je volgt relevante ontwikkelingen in Europa en wereldwijd en vertaalt deze naar concrete kansen. Dankzij jouw diplomatieke, scherpe advisering weet het KNMI zijn positie te versterken in internationale gremia. Dat is waar jij aan bijdraagt bij het Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut (KNMI). Als senior inspecteur speel je een sleutelrol in de kwaliteit van onze meteorologische waarnemingen. Met jouw kennis en expertise zorg je ervoor dat onze meetstations betrouwbare en representatieve data leveren. Dit is jouw kans om direct bij te dragen aan de kwaliteit van het Nederlandse weerbericht: lees verder of solliciteer direct!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hoe jij bijdraagt<\/strong><br \/>Wij zoeken een senior inspecteur die zowel inhoudelijk expert is als actief meewerkt in de uitvoering. Je bent kennishouder van de meteorologische en ruimtelijke eisen voor waarneemstations en voert daarnaast zelf inspecties uit. Je werkt samen met collega\u2019s binnen en buiten het inspectieteam en bent een belangrijk aanspreekpunt voor interne en externe stakeholders. Jij bewaakt de kwaliteit en continu\u00efteit van het inspectieproces.<\/p>\n<p>In deze rol werk je op unieke locaties. Denk hierbij aan de platformen op zee. Jij volgt hiervoor diverse trainingen en cursussen om hier te mogen werken.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jouw werkzaamheden<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Je co\u00f6rdineert het inspectieteam en bewaakt samen met je collega\u2019s de inspectieplanning. Je verdeelt het werk, stemt af met interne en externe partners, en zorgt dat inspecties tijdig en consistent worden uitgevoerd.<\/li>\n<li>Je voert ruimtelijke inspecties uit op meteorologische waarneemlocaties op land en op platforms op zee. Gelukkig heb jij geen hoogtevrees! Daarbij beoordeel je de representativiteit van meetlocaties ten opzichte van hun omgeving. Je analyseert invloeden zoals bebouwing, begroeiing en warmtebronnen (bijvoorbeeld asfalt of zonnepanelen) en bepaalt de impact hiervan op de meetkwaliteit.<\/li>\n<li>Je stelt heldere rapportages op, vertaalt bevindingen naar concrete acties en adviseert over verbeteringen, verplaatsingen of optimalisaties van meetlocaties. Je maakt daarbij afgewogen keuzes over meetkwaliteit, praktische haalbaarheid, operationele continu\u00efteit en toekomstbestendigheid van de waarneeminfrastructuur. Dit geldt voor stations op land, offshore platforms, windparken en scheepswaarnemingen (Voluntary Observing Ships, VOS). Ook voer je verkenningen uit voor nieuwe meetlocaties, conform de richtlijnen van de World Meteorological Organization (WMO).<\/li>\n<li>Daarnaast onderhoud je intensief contact met stationbeheerders, rederijen, offshore partijen en internationale partners, inclusief locaties op de BES-eilanden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Jouw team<\/strong><br \/>Samen met 3 collega-inspecteurs sta jij aan de lat om de kwaliteit van data en onze dienstverlening hoog te houden. Jij fungeert als inhoudelijk aanspreekpunt voor je collega\u2019s, Je stimuleert professionalisering binnen het team door opleidingen en kennisdeling te organiseren en doet voorstellen voor procesverbeteringen. Rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are changing the way weather forecasts are created. Sounds like something for you? Read our vacancy and apply directly!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How you contribute<\/strong><br \/>The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) is an international leader in AI\/ML research and development for weather forecasting. To support and accelerate this transition, we are looking for a data scientist to help realize the AI\/ML ambition of the KNMI.<\/p>\n<p>The KNMI helps various countries in the global south in their challenge to adapt to climate change and the impacts it can have on extreme weather, for example by issuing warnings for extreme weather so that preventive measures can be taken. Within the KNMI Global Programme, collaboration focuses on improving weather forecasts and making early warning systems more effective, among other things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your activities <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Within this context, you will work on the development of robust and accessible early warning solutions for Sub-Saharan Africa. The KNMI is already developing and implementing a high-resolution, regional machine learning weather model, as well as observation-based models with a focus on extreme weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>You will join the scientists in the KNMI DataLab who are working on this, while also collaborating across departments (e.g., the R&amp;D Satellite Observations department)<\/li>\n<li>You will investigate whether a machine learning model can be deployed for Sub-Saharan Africa by developing countries.<\/li>\n<li>You will explore the possibilities and train an initial version of the model. They work on the research and development of data-driven applications.
