Werkgroepdocenten Psychologie

Binnen de bacheloropleiding Psychologie wordt in elk vak van het eerste en tweede jaar werkgroeponderwijs verzorgd. De inhoud van de werkgroepen verschilt per vak, net als de didactische werkvormen die worden gebruikt. In het inhoudelijk onderwijs is het werkgroeponderwijs vooral bedoeld om activerend onderwijs te stimuleren, moeilijke stof uit hoorcolleges te verduidelijken en (gespreks)vaardigheden te oefenen. In het methodenonderwijs oefenen studenten de methodologie, diagnostiek en statistiek, en leren ze wetenschappelijk schrijven.

Als werkgroepdocent begeleid je wekelijks een aantal werkgroepen met ongeveer 20 Nederlandse en/of internationale studenten. Daarnaast heb je een belangrijke rol in het nakijken en van feedback voorzien van de eindopdrachten binnen het methoden- en statistiekonderwijs. Je wordt aangesteld voor het geven van werkgroepen bij zowel de inhoudelijke vakken als bij het methoden- en statistiekonderwijs. Je neemt deel aan vakoverleggen, evaluatie-bijeenkomsten en intervisies.

PhD candidate; Mechanism and assembly of type VII secretion system machineries

All bacteria depend on extracellular proteins to be able to communicate and interact with their environment. A particular biological challenge is to get these relatively large molecules from the cytosol and across the surrounding multi-layered bacterial cell envelope without compromising its integrity. To achieve protein transport, bacteria have evolved a suite of specialized protein secretion systems, with up to eleven systems discovered so far, across different species.

Mycobacteria, such as the human bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, rely on such a system, called type VII secretion system (T7SS), to transport proteins important for their physiology but also virulence. In the mycobacterial inner membrane, T7SSs assemble a large complex, responsible for translocating large, folded protein substrates. We have recently isolated and solved the structure of this fragile inner membrane assembly as a 33 subunit, 2.3 MDa complex with 165 transmembrane domains (Bunduc et al., Nature 593:445-448). Building on this and other novel findings in our group, we aim to understand how this large membrane complex is assembled and uncover the mechanism by which it translocates folded proteins.

The position involves both wet and dry lab experimentation. Using state-of-the-art molecular and biochemical methods, you will isolate these membrane complexes from different genetic backgrounds, characterize their biochemical properties and analyse their molecular structure using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The latest AI tools, such as Alphafold, BindCraft will be integrated to complement the analysis.

The planned starting date for the project is flexible.

ADFS Specialist

De Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is op zoek naar een ervaren consultant die ons kan versterken in het beheer en de doorontwikkeling van onze identity-, federatie- en databaseomgeving. Je werkt in een complexe en dynamische IT-omgeving met veel koppelingen, legacy-onderdelen, moderne cloudcomponenten en een hoge beschikbaarheidseis. Jij bent dé specialist die overzicht houdt, verbeteringen doorvoert en collega’s ondersteunt in de tweede en derde lijn.

Jouw taken

• Algemeen beheer en ondersteuning
  Je levert ondersteuning op onze kernsystemen en verzorgt o.a. monitoring via SCOM, onderhoud aan Backup & Restore-processen, Beheer van BvD en Life Cycle Management van betrokken systemen en componenten.
• ADFS (Functioneel & Technisch)
  Je beheert en optimaliseert onze ADFS-omgeving. Je stelt claim rules in, ververst metadata, beheert access policies en application groups en onderhoudt de koppeling met on-premise MFA via SurfSecureID. Daarnaast zorg je voor het tijdig patchen, installeren van Windows-updates en het vervangen van certificaten. Ook beheer je de MFA-plugin.
• SQL Server beheer
  Je ondersteunt on-premise platformen zoals ADFS en SharePoint vanuit databaseperspectief. Je voert databasebeheer uit (aanmaken, rechten instellen, scripts beoordelen en uitvoeren). Je adviseert proactief vanuit diepgaande technische én historische kennis van de VU-architectuur. Je verzorgt patching en onderhoudsupdates op SQL-omgevingen en ondersteunt applicatie-teams waar nodig.
• SharePoint
  Je levert beheer en ondersteuning voor onze on-premise SharePoint-omgeving in samenwerking met functionele teams.
• SurfConext & SurfSecureID
  Je beheert SurfConext-koppelingen en MFA-configuraties, en levert functionele ondersteuning bij vraagstukken. Je stelt policies en claim rules op, fungeert als technisch klankbord en bewaakt vertrouwensniveaus (LoA1 t/m LoA3) binnen SurfSecureID. Je onderhoudt certificaten en configuraties op ADFS-servers en de koppeling richting Azure MFA.
• Azure / Identity & Access Management
  Je beheert koppelingen tussen Azure MFA en SurfSecureID en biedt 2e/3e lijns ondersteuning bij incidenten. Je beheert en verfijnt Azure Conditional Access Policies, ondersteunt in Azure B2C (user flows, CIAM-koppelingen, opschonen accounts) en verzorgt checks en onderhoud op Azure Front Door.
  In Entra ID (Azure AD) beheer je gebruikers, groepen, enterprise applications en app registrations, en lever je advies over inrichting en best practices.
• Functioneel/technische ondersteuning binnen applicaties
  Je ondersteunt collega’s en teams in het beheer en gebruik van o.a. Overleaf, Jira/Confluence, Omada en Simodont, waarbij je zowel technisch als functioneel kunt schakelen.

PhD position in Sentiment Analyses for Wellbeing

We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join an interdisciplinary project exploring how artificial intelligence can help us better understand and assess human wellbeing. Traditional wellbeing measures such as surveys are limited, they are static, infrequent, and unable to capture the dynamic nature of everyday life.

This project aims to change that by developing AI-driven methods to assess wellbeing through video-based sentiment analyses.

As a PhD student, you will develop and refine machine learning models to analyze multimodal video data (facial expressions, tone, behavior, and speech) for dynamic wellbeing assessment. You will work with open-source datasets as well as video material from participants of the Netherlands Twin Register, integrating genetic and psychological data where relevant. Beyond algorithm development, you will also address methodological challenges such as data quality, bias, and model validity.

This project is a collaboration between the Department of Biological Psychology (Prof. dr. Meike Bartels & dr. Dirk Pelt) and the Department of Computer Science, AI research programme (dr. Emma Beauxis Aussalet & Prof. dr. Mark Hoogendoorn).

Part-Time Student Assistant Position in Neuroscience Research

At the Functional Genomics Department of the VU (https://fga.cncr.nl/), we aim to understand how the brain functions, how neurons adapt to their environment, and how these processes are disrupted in neurological disorders. We use cultured human IPSC-derived and rodent neurons to address these questions.

Your role:
As a student assistant, you will work closely with our researchers, assisting with essential lab preparations. Your main tasks will include:

• Coating culture plates and coverslips for primary neurons
• Culturing glial cells used to support neuron cultures
• Resupplying the tissue culture labs
• Preparing tissue culture media
