Medewerker ambtelijk secretariaat examencommissies

Het ambtelijk secretariaat ondersteunt de toelatingscommissies, de examen(sub)commissie(s) en de BSA-commissie van de faculteit. In deze functie ondersteun je voornamelijk de ambtelijk secretaris van de examencommissies. Naast de beantwoording van vragen zorg je dat verzoeken die jij niet ambtelijk kunt afhandelen, worden voorgelegd aan de examencommissies. Daarnaast is een belangrijk onderdeel van je werkzaamheden het leveren van een bijdrage aan de behandeling van fraudemeldingen en beroepschriften. In alle gevallen zorg je voor tijdige en juiste terugkoppeling aan betrokkenen.

JOUW TAKEN

• behandelen van vragen en verzoeken van (aankomend) studenten in ServiceNow
• voorbereiden en voorleggen van verzoeken/klachten aan de verschillende examencommissies
• leveren van een bijdrage aan de behandeling van fraudemeldingen en beroepschriften
• in voorkomende gevallen notuleren van vergaderingen
• leveren van een bijdrage aan overige voorkomende werkzaamheden, waaronder de uitvoering van de extra tentamengelegenheden in juli/augustus

Assistant professor Environmental Geography and Land Use

As part of the team of the Environmental Geography staff your research and teaching will use spatial data and modelling to explore alternative futures of land use at local, European and global scales. You will show policy makers and different stakeholder groups the potential of land use management to contribute to sustainable future development pathways. Your work is, focussed on the use of innovative spatial methods and models. Preferably you can apply spatial methods to both rural and urban areas, and address sustainability in agriculture, urban and natural land uses. Together with colleagues you teach students at Bsc and Msc level in spatial research methods and sustainability-related topics. At the PhD level, you supervise researchers working on land use science and spatial modelling. You write project proposals to fund PhD students and Postdocs that use a systems perspective, quantitative modelling tools and spatial research methods. You collaborate in research projects related to sustainability both inside and outside the department.

Your duties:

• you develop innovative research using spatial analysis and modelling across multiple landscape types
• you teach in general and more specialized Environmental Science courses that are part of the institute’s teaching programmes
• you supervise Master's and Bachelor's theses
• you work together with the department's staff in the acquisition of external funds for PhD and postdoc projects
• you (co-) publish scientific papers and present your work to stakeholders

Postdoc project: Neuron-glia interactions in memory

We are looking for a candidate for a 3 years postdoc project that will be carried out at the section Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology (MCN). Recent studies have shown that in addition to neurons, glial cells play a major role in synaptic function. So far, it is unclear what the molecular mechanisms are that glial cells use to modify synaptic function and the storage and retrieval of memories. The overall aim of the project is therefore to obtain insight into the molecules that astrocytes use for interacting with synapses and to tune their function, in health and disease.

The candidate will perform genetic manipulation of astrocytes to study their structural and functional interaction with neuronal networks underlying memory storage and retrieval. For this, you will execute stereotactic surgeries to deliver viral vectors to specific brain regions implicated in memory. Furthermore, experiments will involve testing (transgenic) mice in behavioral paradigms complemented by molecular and imaging techniques and subsequent data analyses. As such, we are looking for a candidate with an interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience. Experience with any of the techniques mentioned is an advantage.

PostDoc in Hybrid Intelligence: to-align-or-not-to-align.

In this PD position, you investigate what alignment is required between the world models of agents and humans that collaborate. You also develop communicative strategies for the agent to detect misalignments and take actions to resolve these. Are we talking about the same things, in the same place at the same time and how can we reach consensus? You will develop experiments in which world views are created from observations and communications and different approaches can be tested to align the human and agent variants. The PD will experiment with symbolic techniques using Knowledge Graph representations of the world, Large Language Model encodings of the world and hybrid approaches. For the alignment, a Theory-of-Mind model is needed to deal with variants of the world.

Your duties

• create AI agents that can create world representations from observations and communication and represent alternative world views in a Theory-of-Mind model
• detect misalignments across these world views and develop communicative strategies to resolve these
• create experiments and data to test different approaches
• carry out your research according to international standards
• and at least one publication per year in an A or B ranked journal or conference proceedings
• make your research and experiments publicly available and reproducible
• teaching Natural Language Processing courses in the bachelor and master programmes

Jouw taken

• in het kort: een unieke en boeiende financiële spilfunctie op concernniveau tussen het College van Bestuur en de faculteiten en diensten en op het snijvlak van Financiën en Onderwijs en Onderzoek (inclusief de ondersteuning daarvan)
• je krijgt de mogelijkheid om te werken op de verschillende onderwerpen die spelen binnen het team Concern Control. Het werkpakket is gevarieerd, hiermee lever je zowel een belangrijke bijdrage aan onze vaste werkzaamheden op basis van de Planning en Control Cyclus als ook het zelfstandig oppakken van een aantal projecten en adviesklussen. Daarmee krijg je een breed beeld van wat er financieel speelt binnen de VU
• zo draag je via het opstellen en coördineren van rapportages in belangrijke mate bij aan de Planning en Control Cyclus en zorg je hierbij voor de relevante managementinformatie richting het College van Bestuur en de faculteiten en diensten (in samenwerking met de business controllers)
• je werkt samen met andere controllers en (beleids)adviseurs aan het opstellen van de jaarlijkse Planning en Control cyclus waarbij voortdurende verbetering belangrijk is, inclusief verbetering van de achterliggende rapportages en managementinformatie
• je adviseert het bestuur van de Vrije Universiteit over de (financiële) strategie, business cases, en verbetering van de performance en draagt daarmee bij aan het realiseren van het financiële beleid en strategie vanuit een VU breed (controlling) perspectief
• je participeert in of coördineert instellingsbrede projecten
