Teaching Assistant

About this job
As a Teaching Assistant (0.4 FTE) at the Academy for AI, Games & Media (AGM) at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), you will support lecturers in delivering the programme and guiding students on their educational journey. While lecturers provide the content, your mission will be to inspire students with creative and innovative ideas for projects, assignments and tools. Our shared goal is to nurture the creative potential of today’s students, equipping them to become the changemakers of tomorrow’s Game Art.

You will support lecturers and students within the Creative Media and Game Technology (CMGT) Visual Arts programme, guiding students through the practical skills and pipeline discipline required to produce industry-standard 3D art assets. You will provide hands-on coaching during practicals, review student work, and help troubleshoot technical issues across modelling, texturing, rigging and engine implementation.

You will work closely with lecturers to align practical sessions with course content, and you will act as a technical point of contact for students who need direct, practical guidance on tools, pipelines and workflow standards. Where students fall into bad technical habits – messy topology, inefficient UVs, disorganised file structures – you will correct these early, before they become embedded practice.

You will primarily support practicals related to 3D modelling, texturing and implementation in Unreal Engine, and contribute to keeping course materials and pipeline standards up to date with current industry practice.

What do we offer?

  • The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of €3,667.97 and a monthly maximum of €5,154.67 (gross amounts based on full-time employment);
  • This position is classified in scale 9 of the cao-hbo (collective labour agreement). Your official job title will be Instructor;
  • This position involves a one-year employment contract with the possibility of conversion into an indefinite employment contract;
  • Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed when you travel by public transport;
  • You will receive a contribution towards your health insurance costs;
  • You will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December and an annual holiday allowance of 8% in May;
  • You will also be awarded professional development hours every year and almost 11 weeks of holiday entitlements in a full-time position;
  • You have the option to work partly from home, which can help improve your work-life balance;
  • You will build an attractive pension through the ABP pension fund;
  • Working at BUas means always striving for ‘the plus’. BUas aims to be more than just a university of applied sciences, continuously focusing on development and creating meaningful experiences;
  • You will be working at a top-ranked university of applied sciences on a green, sustainable campus near the city centre of Breda;
  • You will be working in an attractive and friendly working environment together with enthusiastic colleagues from the industry and students from around the world.
  • Moving from abroad to Breda in the Netherlands? We provide support and financial compensation for relocation and settling in the Netherlands. Dutch tax authorities may offer tax reductions to applicants from abroad, making tax rates comparable to those in the UK and US.

What do we ask of you?

  • You have a maximum of five years of working experience in the game industry (modelling in Maya and Blender, Pipeline and workflow knowledge, Unreal Engine, basic animation skills);
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree;
  • You have good communication skills, are patient, and know how to deal with diverse and international people. You are experienced in giving feedback and are comfortable correcting technical mistakes on the spot;
  • Teaching experience is not a prerequisite as long as you are willing to take training or obtain a didactics certificate. Prior experience is a plus;
  • You will be working in an international and intercultural setting. Therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch is a necessity.

The application process
Please send us your application before 20 August 2026 via the online application form. Do you have any questions? Feel free to contact Patty Zanardi De Toledo via toledo.p@buas.nl with questions about the job itself, or recruitment@buas.nl for questions about the application process. Due to the summer holiday, no substantive questions about the vacancy will be answered between 11 July and 17 August 2026.

You will receive a reply to your application no later than two weeks after the closing date. The submission of a certificate of good conduct (in Dutch abbreviated to VOG) is a condition for commencing employment at BUas. We will initiate a request for this after the terms of employment meeting. Among candidates with equal qualifications and experience, preference will be given to the internal candidate.

Equipment Desk Instructor

About this job
As an Equipment Desk Instructor (0.8-1 FTE) at the Academy for AI, Games & Media (AGM) you will run the equipment desk within Media & Games at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly. Your responsibilities include checking, testing and maintaining a wide range of AV equipment – cameras, recorders, gimbals, lights and peripherals, controllers, VR headsets, laptops and screens – as well as troubleshooting and repairing equipment whenever possible. You will also manage requests, reservations and inventory through TopDesk, and research new equipment that could strengthen Media & Games’ learning activities.

Beyond the desk itself, you will facilitate workshops and practice sessions on both basic and advanced media equipment. You will provide maintenance and technical support for the TV studio, manage its booking system via Microsoft Bookings, and maintain and support the AV suites and recording booths. From technical software workshops on tools such as colour grading, compositing and production pipelines, to making sure the right equipment is available at the right time: you are the hands-on go-to person for it all. You will coordinate closely with teaching staff to align equipment use with the curriculum, planning and communicating in advance to ensure availability when it's needed most. You are also the point of contact for various programmes and stakeholders within the academy, introducing them to the equipment desk's rules, regulations, schedules, availability and limitations. On top of this, you will manage and maintain the programme's server infrastructure, including Perforce version control and CI/CD pipelines that support students' project workflows.

What do we offer?
